The Front of the House

We were finally able to take a photo of the front of the house. That means both cars have actually found a home in the garage.

We still have stuff to put away and boxes to unpack and things to put on the wall. I am hoping to get a handle on everything before Thanksgiving.

Moved In

We closed at 8:30 on Friday, September 9. Then we started moving. And moving. And moving. We got several loads moved on Friday including beds. We spent the night in the new house.

Then with a small crew, we got the rest of our not well-packed belongings moved. Our garage is packed full. We have boxes every where. I am thinking by the end of September, things might be put away.

I have tons of photos. I do not have a picture of the front of the house yet. I am waiting until we have stuff moved out of the way and cars in the garage. The house is blue-gray. It looks different in photos than in real life. I will post when I have them.

The children are thrilled to have their own rooms and a nice space for watching tv, playing the Wii (which is not working) and getting on the computer. I can't tell you how excited I am to have a Master bathroom!

September 5 Update

So we are on the countdown. The tentative close date is September 9. Elaine is sure they will have it finished. I'm on the fence. The outside of the house still needs to be painted. The wood floor is not finished. Most of the tiles need grout and the grout needs to be sealed.

On the bright side, most of the electrical work is finished. The furnace and heat pump have been installed. The sod is in.

We are impatiently waiting to see if it actually gets finished. I have been having bad house dreams.

August 31 Update

The stone on the outside of the house is finished. The fireplace was completed today.

The granite on the bar has been installed.

Most of the plumbing is finished.

They started putting in the wood floor today.

Right now we are slated to close next Friday. Crossing our fingers that everything is ready to go!

August 29 Update

The pillars on the front of the house are finished. The sidewalk to the house was poured on Friday as well as the step to the front stoop.

Today the interior house paint was finished. The tile guys were putting the kitchen back splash in.

Most of the doors now have door knobs. The cabinets in the kitchen have their knobs. Drawers need the handles.

To be completed this week: tile grout, electrical and plumbing, exterior house paint and maybe wood floor.

Next week carpet and finishing.

The end is near!

August 25 Update

Unfortunately, I was unable to get pictures of our granite. It was installed last Saturday, and Glen forgot to bring my camera.

All the cabinets, doors and trim are stained and sealed.

Today, the first paint coat was started. Builder said all painting should be done by Friday.

The workers started the posts on the stoop.

The time frame for finishing is right on. Can't wait to get a final date?

Stone

The majority of the stone on the front of the house is up. We think we have the house color picked out. Still need a trim color. All the cabinets and trim are stained. Painting should be next.

We picked out granite remnants for the bathrooms. Hoping to get some for the bar as well.

Mercifully, the bad storm last night missed Gretna.

The stone for the fireplace was delivered. Can't wait to see what it will look like.

Choosing Granite

We did pick the granite for the kitchen. Glen and I went and after narrowing it down to 2, I went with Glen's pick of the darker granite. The granite was called verde butterfly. I know verde means green but on the large slab, I didn't see any green at all. The salesmen kept trying to pull us away from this color. I went to the car and Glen went back to get our sample. He gave it to me, and I thought he had the wrong piece. It didn't have just a hint of green. It was green. I was horrified.

We called the builder and let him know what color we picked. He was surprised. That night I could not sleep thinking about that granite. In the morning, I told Glen I was going to pick a different color. He called the place and the builder. Dennis was not surprised we changed our mind.

I went with Venetian Crystal. It looks very much like Venetian Gold. Next time I will listen to my gut!
