Stone

The majority of the stone on the front of the house is up. We think we have the house color picked out. Still need a trim color. All the cabinets and trim are stained. Painting should be next.

We picked out granite remnants for the bathrooms. Hoping to get some for the bar as well.

Mercifully, the bad storm last night missed Gretna.

The stone for the fireplace was delivered. Can't wait to see what it will look like.

Choosing Granite

We did pick the granite for the kitchen. Glen and I went and after narrowing it down to 2, I went with Glen's pick of the darker granite. The granite was called verde butterfly. I know verde means green but on the large slab, I didn't see any green at all. The salesmen kept trying to pull us away from this color. I went to the car and Glen went back to get our sample. He gave it to me, and I thought he had the wrong piece. It didn't have just a hint of green. It was green. I was horrified.

We called the builder and let him know what color we picked. He was surprised. That night I could not sleep thinking about that granite. In the morning, I told Glen I was going to pick a different color. He called the place and the builder. Dennis was not surprised we changed our mind.

I went with Venetian Crystal. It looks very much like Venetian Gold. Next time I will listen to my gut!

Latest Update

I am back in school so I have not had the time to sit down and write any updates. Things are progressing very well. The worst case scenario is that we will be in the house in 4 weeks. The sooner the better. The kids start school this week so that means driving them to and from school until we get into the house.

All the tiling is finished except one small corner of the wainscoting in the master bathroom. All that is left is the grout. All the cabinets are in. The closets have shelves. All the closets need are the poles installed. All the trim is finished and the doors are hung.

On the outside, the concrete is poured so we have a driveway and sidewalk past the house. Still need the sidewalk to the front door. The back patio and stoop are also finished.

They began putting stone on the outside of the house today. The main wall is almost finished. We hope to have our exterior colors picked tomorrow.

The interior of the house has been cleaned. The painters should begin tomorrow. Then we wait for fixtures and counter tops to be installed. Final plumbing and electrical work. And, of course, the rest of the flooring.

Tile Photos

August 5 Update

We could not get into the house. But Thursday evening I did take photos. The crown molding on the kitchen cabinets and the drop zone is finished. The main bath floor tile is down. They started tiling the bar in the basement.

All of the trim in Alaric's room is finished. They started finishing the closets. There are shelves in the pantry.

We are still waiting for the stone on the outside of the house.

Tile

Tile and More Cabinets

Today's update. There is some tile work started in the Master shower. The tile floor in the laundry room is down. It just needs to be grouted. They started putting up tile in the main bath as well.

Jay got more work done on the cabinets today. He should be finished tomorrow.

Most of the doors are hung.

We planned our closets with the builder today. He is just excited about this project as we are.
